green light on charger very faint

Hi ,

I have a MBP 15 inch late 2011 - and everything was working fine until a few days ago when I noticed that the light on my charger is very faint. The battery indicator on the computer knows that it is plugged in but it is not charging. When I check the battery it has a capacity of 97% - and has gone thorugh 193 load cycles.

I have opened up the back of the computer and unplugged the battery from the mother board and then plugged it back in. Still the same.

Anyone else had this issue? Any other ideas to try?

Was the shift that you made external? If it was an internal adjustment do you remember where you got the know how ie a YouTube video search like for myself for these types of fixes. What types of key would you è

First try a SMC reset:

Follow directions for "a battery you should not remove yourself"

Also try with a different charger if you access to one, to see if that may be your problem, if no change follow the instructions below.

After this check the system info, Hold the OPTION key click on the Apple logo, and select system info, click on power in the left column, and check the battery status. With the charger plugged in under Bettery info:

Check the charging info:

espescially charging (should be yes)

Health info: (should be normal)

If it is a battery peoblem you shuould take care of it ASAP so it does not cause further/more expensive peoblems (if you are still under warranty, 1 year from purchase, or AppleCare which extends it to 3 years from purchase any repair should be free)

If you have issues after this and the info is not as I showed it you may have ther issues.

You can make an appointment at the Genius bar ay an Apple store, and they will disgnose it for free.

Hi there

Thanks. I have done the SMC reset -though I don't exact know if that worked or not (there were no lights or difference).

Basically I held down at the same time the option-shift-control and power button and then let them go. Then I restarted.

The health Information is: normal and charging is no.

AC Power - Current Power Source: Yes

AC Charger info is saying Connected: Yes

I dont know what else to do at this point.

You should take it in to an Apple Genius bar (make an appointment) you MAY have a bad charger port or a bad MagSafe card, the diagnosis is free, and they will give you yor options. Either of these is a fairly inexpensive repair.

I opened it up and it turns out that my port had shifted a bit somehow so it was not getting the proper connection. I shifted it back into place, restarted it and it is working like normal again.

I have the same problem with a battery i recently bought - the charger colour is faint green and is not charging although it recognises that the battery is connected. What do you mean the port had shifted? the mag safe DC-In board? how did you sift it back into place?

I had the same problem with my MacBook Air. What I did by accident was something heavy fell on it from a shelf on the desk and which actually helped the laptop finally start charging. I hope I didn't damage it any further but thankfully it started charging after a week.

You can also make sure that the "sping loaded" contact pins in the MagSafe connector move freely unplug it from the wall first, and gentltly press down on each connector pin GENTLY and make it is freely moving. if you MagSafe port has moved, you should let a Genius bar tech take care of it for you.
