won't hold charge

My ipod touch (5th gen) all of sudden will not hold a charge. It has been several days and the charge only lasts an hour or so, and last night I charged it completely full and than did not use it. Today when I went to use it, it was dead. It was purchased in July, so I'm not sure if it still has a warranty (is it a year after purchase or 3 months?). Hopefully they can just replace the battery. What should I do, and is there any way to fix this on my own?

iPod touch, iOS 7.0.3

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

If with the on-year warranty period, not abused and defective Apple will exchange it at no cost. Otherwise Apple will exchange it for one with a new battery )if only battery problem) for $79.

If you your a a non-Apple person works on the iPod it will void the remainder of the warranty.

I tried reseting my ipod touch and it did not make any difference. I then restored my ipod and fully charged it on my computer. That was at 7:30 pm. I had the WiFi turned on. I turned the device off and did not use it at all. The next mroning at 9am it had half a battery. I took a 40 second video and the battery went down to 20%.

Tonight I'm going to do the same thing, but put it in airplane mode to see if that makes a difference.

Regardless though of whether or not my ipod is in airplane mode or not, it should be able to hold a charge longer than that. Essentially I can't use it unless it's plugged in.

I would make an appt. at the Genious Bar if the closest one wasn't 5 hours away. Not sure what to do next. Pretty bummed though!
