MBP (Mid 2009) does not read memory from BANK 1

It seems I am having a problem similar to some other people, yet I don't see an explicit answer to the question.

Below is what shows from my system report. However, I have another 4 GB RAM of the same kind in BANK 1. I have swapped both sticks of RAM multiple times to check that they both in fact work.... unfortunately, BANK 1 never reads the RAM.. I have tried memtest and other similar processes I have seen in the forums, but all of those only check the RAM being read, not whether or not there is something wrong with the memory slot itself. I have seen a few posts that lead me to believe it is one of two things: 1. the memory slot itself is bad and I have to replace the logic board yadda yadda or 2. the memory slot was somehow disabled from successive upgrades of the operating system.

Not much you can do if the bank is bad on the logic board.

I have a similar situation as you. If I leave only one memory to Bank 1 (the slot that is closer to logic board), it can be read successfully. If I put both, only bank 0 can be read (the one that is closer to the back cover).

I am finding tools to try the "loose the screws" method described here:

Meanwhile, you could also try to see if that works.

Cheers.

I had the exact same issue. One of the memory slots not reading cards. Thanks to iveney, loosening the 4 screws around the slots worked. I dont know how, but it did. I just gave all the screws alittle more than a half turn to one full turn (loose) and it seriously solved the problem. I almost took my Macbook Pro (17" early 2009) into the apple store and saved me money to have them fix it. If anyone else out there is having this same problem, try this first before anything. Thank you for this!!
