Q: How do I add the date to a footer or header?

If I'm not mistaken the footer and header features are temporarily lost.

They will come back as we can read here.

By "(...) in the text?" do you mean in a cell?

I think no opsion for this.  I'm looking for the answer to that too. And when press the return key, dont go the next cell. I cant this.. To shame..

The way to have the current date show in a cell is type =NOW, giving this:

Which you can format with this:

This updates every time you make a change to the document, so if you want to "freeze" it in time, you can copy by command-c then Edit>Paste Formula Results.
