The backups are there but migration assistant is not performing as expected. I spent hours with support but the assistant is just not working. It is always looking for other sources.

Exactly the same problem here when trying to migrate from timecapsule to my new PB15" ! Just keeps "looking for other sources", without any progress. Any suggestions?
The problem is solved: when the migration assistant shows your time capsule, do not click it (it will ask for password and wait forever for other sources), but click "other servers" and enter the address of your time capsule by hand. It will immediately proceed.
