Q: pop-up list

Numbers 3 appears to have lost the ability to have a pop-up list automatically created from previous values in the same column, and narrowed down to a shorter list as you begin to enter letters into the cell. Has anyone found it? Thanks !! (BTW there's nothing in 'Help' about pop-ups at all).

    Hi Kanjo,

    Enter your values first

Select all cells in that Column, then Format Inspector > Cell > Data Format > Pop-Up Menu

You can add or delete items later with the + or - buttons

thanks, 'yellowbox', but what i am looking for is a dynamic pop-up list such as found in excel, that is self-creating and self-maintaining. i am reasonably certain that numbers used to do it.  ... karl

    Hi Karl,

I think you're talking about what Apple now calls "Auto-complete text in cells."

That feature is not in Numbers 3.0 but Apple has announced in this support document that it will be restored in upcoming releases within six months.

Meanwhile, you may find that the pop-up menu that Ian described is easy to set up and in some ways is better (no typos, or lack of capitalization where there should be capitalization, creeping into your data).

You don't have to put all the values in by hand. You can automatically populate the menu by first selecting the entire column and then formatting as pop-up menu.

For this and other ideas for working with Numbers 3.0 see this thread.
