3ware lsi raid controllers no longer supported by diskimage mounter?

Hi,

I have upgraded to OSX Mavericks, and I'm so disappointed. I have my scratch array based on 3ware/lsi 9750 controller, and seems the diskimage mounter is having problems mounting volumes from that controller. I can log in to my account, but once the diskimage mounter attempts to mount it the whole system freezes up. I have to do hard shutdown, because it won't recover. I've tried destroying raid volume, and configure it as JBOD, but no luck. It seems lsi extensions are working fine, because I can make config changes of the card. Once I disconnect all drives from the controller then I can log in to osx just fine, and do my things.... except video editing....

Anyone with 3ware controller having issues?

Funny you should mention that.

I am having the same problems on a 3ware 9650SE-4LPML with 2 x WD 1TB RE4 drives in RAID 1.

The problems occur when the controller mounts the disks with write access.

No problems if mounted in read access only.

I use these disks for primary storage and import to a SSD for OS and processing then once done, back to storage disk

Have tried searching the LSI/3ware site for updates or info on OSX 10.9, but it does not appear that they are that interested in continuing support for OSX - just having tried to find updated drivers for 10.7 and 10.8 was a mission in itself.

My solution:

just received a Highpoint RocketRAID 4520 ROC card which according to their site is supported for OSX.

WIll try it out and see.

Here is an update - doesn't look to promising:

I found this on a different site's discussion board:

"quick update from my side. I raised a ticket with LSI and there is their response.

"The 3Ware 9650SE cards has been discontinued so there may not be a driver update available for the MacOS Mavericks.
I can confirm that with our developers and let you know.

Thank you

I've done it as well. Their answer was very short "10.9 no support"... I've just replied that if they can drop support for existing customers so easily with no regrets, then I will also revise my proposal for new hardware replacement in our data center that's coming up next year, and ensure we don't buy any hardware that its manufacturer can't provide proper support until product's estimated EOL... I can understand dropping support for some OSes when they roll out new product, but for those that are still being sold? That's just ridiculous! Company take-overs should be regulated, so firms that just spent large $ can be ensured their investment is protected for at least 80% of products lifetime. You're buying out your competitor, then you support their customers, period. One thing for sure, LSI will never see our doorstep ever again...

Hi

i know this link is getting fairly old now, but I have a 3ware 9650 SE raid controller.

I am running Mac osx 10.8 and I cannot get the installer to work. I think I have the right one on both a CD and from the LSI archive website.

But when I try to run the driver installation, nothing happens.

From your post it looked like you found a working driver for this configuration.

Could you possibly help me out? It would be every appreciated.

thanks
