Q: Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13'' Wifi Issues

It worked. He just talked to his colleague/supervisor quickly - no further questions asked. All paperwork is already done by now.

Edit: Just checked out of curiosity: The same paragraph (holiday return policy) can be found on the swiss applestore website.

Did anyone try this step of disabling "Wake for Network Access" in "System Preferences > Energy Saver". This seems to work for me and pings are back to normal. Also wake up from sleeps connects to Wifi.

i tried this, didn't work for me unfortunately.

I noted when I was in Apple seeing genius re this problem - all their wifi networks are on 5ghz not 2.4ghz (as we all maybe are on who are having problems).

I wonder if all apples testing and dev has been on 5ghz networks and the problem only really hurts people on 2.4ghz networks??

For me the problem used to happen only on 5Ghz (N and AC) and not on 2.4Ghz

For me the problem exist on 2,4 GHz. That's another problem, my Macbook insists on using 2,4 GHz instead of 5 GHz even if I sit in the same room as the Time Capsule only a short distance away.

Had mine swapped as well today at local apple store. Last day hat the holiday season swap pplicy was possible.

Tried to avoid the swap but testing on other networks showed same issue. Had techsupport on the phone for hours again. No solution.

Geniusbar had a look as well. They offered a swap.

I did not want to take the risk of a hardware repair although a swap did not appeal top me a lot.

Re-authorizing a new hardware system with a  lot of software is quite timeconsuming.....

So I found something else:

I found that having both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz being transmitted by the same router on different SSIDs seems to affect the Macs reception of the 5Ghz ,slows it down significantly and cause ping to be all over the place. But when I redisabled the 2.4Ghx network everything went back to normal.At home I have two different router one for 2.4 and main connection and 5Ghz for the Mac and other desktops with 1 mobile device.

That's a good finding and if it the case might also explain why the problem happens only for certian people. Could you also try enabling both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz but allocating fixed channels for them in the middle of the frequency range instead of "Auto"? For example, 7 for 2.4Ghz and 108 for 5Ghz.

Between that, which router do you use?

Got to say that I have created a new network location, put Wi-Fi on top in the list and for a few days since I am not complaining.

Can't say it is fixed since I haven't used the notebook in the last few days that much, but the initial impression is that it is working better now.

Ok so I use My 5Ghz Router which is a D-Link DIR-820L

It now runs with 5Ghz on channel 149

So I went and re-enabled the 2.4Ghz on this D-Link and allocated it to channel 7 as was suggested

Today it seems even with the 2.4 enabled there isnt a problem I will keep the thread posted as I am going to leave 2.4 on to see if the same issue will happen over a period of time.

glad I did the swap that was offered by Apple at the genius bar.

I don t have the wifi issues on my new one.

Hi everyone,

Just got my new mbp 13" retina yesterday and I'm also experiencing wifi problems, while my iPhone 5s, older MBP 2010 (tested ML & Mavericks) and Alu MB 2009 (tested ML) are doing fine.

Similar to what many of you have posted, my ping results are also all over the place. For me, this latency issue is not only visible with pinging - I'm also having very slow page loading speeds in Safari and Airplay keeps dropping/stuttering constantly. Curiously, these last two issues are gone when I set my router from 11n to 11g (turning WMM on or off doesn't do anything for me). Pinging was still all over the place though. As a next step, I replaced the wifi driver for an earlier one released for the MBA (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5100655?start=1470&tstart=0). This solved my laterncy issues on 11g, but when I reset my network back to 11n they re-appeared (to my surprise). Also, slow page loading and stuttering Airplay persisted on 11n with the "new-old" driver.

After messing around so much, I noticed that Chrome seems to load much faster on 11n than Safari does, while they seem to behave quite similar on 11g. Also, after some more testing, I found that DLNA streams just fine to my Airplay/DLNA speaker on 11n, while Airplay only works on 11g. That made me think that the problem I'M having might be related to native Apple apps running over 11n wifi. As an additinional test, I fired up Windows XP within OSX using VirtualBox and pinged my router from DOS. And indeed, ping speeds on 11n from DOS are normal (no latency: ~3-5ms; casual lost package), while they're still all over the place in the OSX terminal!

Is anybody else seeing the same general behaviour or is maybe just me?

PS. the wifi-router I'm running is an Ubuntu 13.04 machine running hostapd with a D-Link wifi card (Atheros chipset). I also went through the log files of the router and never found anything out of the ordinary while testing the above - i.e. from the perspective of the router everything seems OK!
