Jun 15, 2014 11:01 AM in response to theshadow124by warbird4,FYI. Your suggestion resolved an issue I was having with wi-fi. I used migration assistant to set up my new MBPr from an old MBP. But I couldn't change my wi-fi network. My wi-fi status said I wasn't connected. And under Network Preferences, it said I was connected via ethernet but listed my wi-fi network.
I used command-R, then chose Disk Utility, Verify Permissions. And this resolved my issue. Thanks.

Jun 16, 2014 11:30 AM in response to 4rkby 4rk,RE: stuck-wifi-on-wake issue
4rk wrote:
I didn't zap pram, change settings, clear the smc etc. Just rebooted, and now with 10.9.3 which had that initial disspointment, it connected on bootup. And it has continued to reconnect every time I sleep and wake.
However I have not since rebooted again. Current up time (during which I've slept and rewoken about 3 times for 4-20h at a time depending, is 4 days, 12h and 15 minutes. I am affraid to reboot, or change any network settings, since, well, there's a chance it could behave again as it did on first boot, with the stuck-wifi-on-wake issue.
...
I said I'd let you know if it changes; and it recurred for me yesterday. I have not rebooted in 12 days, and I was doing fine for the first 10 of those days, so it's frustrating, and it's still on 10.9.3 with the new home location that used to be working reliably for me.

Jun 19, 2014 11:43 PM in response to ShaneD90by lizardslair,I've had my Retina Macbook Pro since Oct 2013. From time to time (maybe once every 2-3 weeks), I do find a problem with my internet connection. I move between my home office ( running an Apple TC from 2010 / 2011 ) and my remote office downtown regularly.
Sometimes, I open my screen and and attempt to open my browser. Many times at my office location ( running a Cradle modem/router), the connection shows full-bars but I can't get anywhere. Naturally I turn off / on the WiFi via the OS menu bar and it fixes itself.
On some other networks (one particularly at a client's location), I receive the Exclimation Mark WIFI symbol immediately. Sometimes a software "reboot" of wifi will also fix the issue. Other times, I have to change to another available SSID for it to actually connect without the Exclaimation.
What brought me here...
For the last 48 hours, my Internet at home has been botchy. Seems like packet loss... my Internet Radio (di.fm / sky.fm) has been dropping after 20-30 seconds of streaming. In fact, I noticed that even pulling up small files ( < 1MB) from my TimeCapsule network drive was taking up to 30-45 seconds. Accessing my email from Mail has also been delayed and flagged errors connecting to my Gmail account. Finally after a day of intermittent access, I started to investigate more....
Long story short, stopping and starting my WiFi (from the OS menu bar) fixed the slowness immediately. Searching "2013 retina macbook wifi issues" brought me here and I have been reading the history. I have not gone through any drive swaps at this point, but simply wanted to back up the fact that on the most recent version of Mavericks on a 2013 rMBP, the WiFi seems to have hardward-based communication issues from time to time that will continue to happpen until a reboot of the WiFi system is performed ( restart of OS or simply turn Off WiFi, turn back On from menu bar ).
[ Also note, other "older" Macbooks on this same network do NOT have issues, nor any of my iOS devices... nearly eliminating all of the various routers as the problem... seems to be communication / protcol with the rMBP WiFi hardware card or driver that causes slow pings / packet loss until restarted ].

Jun 20, 2014 12:14 AM in response to lizardslairby johnniecache,Well, read the thread, its normal. These problems have been discussed here for more than half a year.
A real solution was on the horizon two weeks ago, but the posts were deleted by the admins.
Apple doesnt care much about your problems, but they certainly do care about NDA violations.

Jun 20, 2014 2:01 AM in response to johnniecacheby veggietec,So regardless what kind of wi-fi problem I'm dealing with, it is definitly a software problem?
I don't have any connection losses or anything else which other peopole described in this thread.
The only problem I'm dealing with, is that my connection on wi-fi is ver unconstant - sometimes slow and has around 20% paket loss, on ethernet for example I'm downloading constant with 1,5Mbit/s but with wi-if it drops between 300Kb-1,5Mbit/s, although the router is about 2-3m away (no wall between). Other wi-fi devices are my iPhone and the Apple TV.Are you certain that Yosemite will fix this, because my MBPr is quite new and how can I be sure that it's not a hardware problem?

Jun 20, 2014 2:34 AM in response to veggietecby johnniecache,if you run windows on your MacBook and the wifi doesnt show these issues, a hardware problem is highly unlikely.

Anyway I'll test it tonight. -
Jun 20, 2014 4:11 AM in response to veggietecby davidepaltri,I'm on a MBP retina late 2013
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Software OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
I can't see some WPA wifi networks, I can connect to them with my phone.
I tried also to connect to these via "Join Other Network..." -> Can't connect.
It's unbelievable to see such bug still not fixed.
Mavericks it's a nightmare.

Your complaint is not like the others on this thread.
It is possible your WiFi card or cable is defective, or your antenna wire is disconnected. Those issues could make the signals from those other Networks too low for you to connect successfully.
I recommend you make an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple-owned store and have your computer checked over. Its a free service.

Jun 20, 2014 2:03 PM in response to ShaneD90by William H. Bonney,I just bought a brand new retina 13" Macbook Pro. The manufacture date was May 2014. I've had no wifi issues whatsoever running under Mavericks. I put it to sleep via Finder and closing the lid numerous times and when I wake it up the wifi connects instantly. Perhaps the newly manufactured models have been fixed of this issue? I've used my MBP at various wifi connection spots (library, coffee store, friends house) and had no problems at all.
Also, I took my MBP on a trip to a famous national park in CA and while there I had no wifi connectivity issues, so don't despair the future will be brighter....

You probably took it to Yosemite, and that is why you are not having any of those Mavericks problems.

Jun 20, 2014 2:41 PM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby William H. Bonney,I really enjoyed the scenery and the wildlife while I was there. Our parks are a national treasure, for sure.
Getting back to point, under 10.9.3 Mavericks I've had zero wifi connectivity issues. I was torn between the retina 13" MBP and the 13" MBA. Ultimately the retina display swayed me to go with the MBP despite the potential wifi issues. I thank my lucky stars I've had none. -
Jun 20, 2014 10:44 PM in response to William H. Bonneyby veggietec,While setting up a usb drive for bootcamp windows installation I transfered the iso file from my local network NAS
.
constantly 5-8MB/s via wi-fi although the router, the nas (via ethernet) have Gigabit Ethernet available and the 5GHz wi-fi should be able to transfer 300MBits (which should be around 37MB/s)
Transfer done after 10 minutes...sent 3.95G bytes received 42 bytes 6.56M bytes/sec
total size is 3.95G speedup is 1.00
