Kernel Task is using CPU and slowing down MacBook massivly

Hey,

updated to Mavericks but sadly my MacBook is running very slow now. I checked the Activity Monitor and my CPU is fully or sometimes almost fully used the kernel_task process...

Now I looked around and found that many have the problem but not many have a fix to it!

What can I do to get my MacBook to at least normal speed (its way slower then before and I was told Mavericks will make the Computer faster and more Battery Efficient).

Please let me know how I can constantly fix it...

Thanks

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

"...but the RAM still running very low without using any adobe PS/ AI software..."

You can not see that from the etrecheck list: this shot shows that you do not had 'Ram running low', the Page-outs are practically zero (half hour use).

The list suggests cleaning some softwares:

uninstall Growl

uninstall Memoryclean

Have you already uninstalled the hacked software? (hacked software may cause strange issues).

uninstall DiskinventoryX, use OmniDiskSweeper instead (http://www.omnigroup.com/more).

Take all entries out SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems tab (with the minus sign underneath).

Your configuration is very similar to mine. But I got stuck on item #4 of the instructions:

4. go to your master drive – System -Library – Extensions – IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents – Plugins – ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext – Contents – Resources – find the name from step 3 and move it to a folder that you can find again if needed.

I think I found my way to IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext. At least I found that item in the folder I was in which I think was correct. But that was a deadened. I don't know how to get to -Contents - Resources - etc.

I'd be most grateful if someone would help me out with this, because I've been having this problem a lot, and it is so very annoying!!!!

You have enough ram and enough disk space.

Q1: did you have this Ram from the beginning, or did you upgrade to 8GB yourself?

You have or had hacked software on your system, and your hosts file is compromised (this is not urgent; but you still have leaks/hacks in the system).

Do following first:

remove all entries from SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems, with the minus sign underneath.

Restart. Empty Trash Bin.

Uninstall Bittorrent.

In Safari Preferences Extensions, delete the Avast extension.

In SystemPreferences: update Flasplayer.

Q2: If you do not have a registered version of Autodesk, uninstall it.

Restart again. Empty Tarsh Bin.

Post a new etrecheck list and then we can get to work. But I really would appreciate when you start a new thread and post the link here.

Suggestions:

  1. start a new thread.
  2. try uninstalling
    1. intego
    2. cleanmymac
    3. google keystone (HOWTO: Remove Google Software Update on Mac OS X - Raam Dev)
  3. Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery
  4. you may need to erase your HD and start over with a clean install, because of CleanMyMac
  5. get more RAM, especially if you are going to run so many apps at startup, and run virtualization software.

Jul 17, 2014 5:30 AM in response to SergioAMSilva

Indeed, a lot of "bad" software.

And you have a lot of hacked software.

And you have counterproductive software.

I advice to start a new thread, and you will get more attention.
I propose a clean install:

Backup all your documents, NOT the non-apple softwares, then make a bootable Mavericks stick, format your disk, reinstall a virgin mavericks, do not restore from TM, but install only apps that you need and not the schrapnel that is on your system now. Download those apps from ONLY the official sites, not the "collection sites like Softonic, CNet and others, then bring back your documents.

More instructions in the new thread you are making now, post the link here.

Thus NO Intego, CleanMM, Google auto updaters, no Adobe "tools" (like the AdobeResourceSynchronizer), no littlesnitch, no Java, no Growl, no other tools.

Do not put any in the LoginItems, except the Canon IJ scanner tool.

Jul 17, 2014 5:31 AM in response to JupaMan

Hi Jupa; in addition to what Arthur had suggested, you should think about going with SmartConverterPro, and junk the iSkysoftware and the Wontube. Also, update your Adobe software and well as your Java as these will surely drag your system down. I tried the iSkysoftware, and had quite a few issues, and switched to SmartConverter Pro. it was worth the few bucks, and has run through several iterations of OS X. Hope this helps.
