mail mac is sending twice my outgoing emails hotmail imap

I confirm I got the same issue. Probably a bug from Mail.. Hopefully, Apple will fix it. I just didn't validate if the message was sent twice or it's just shown twice in that folder ..

Since when did Hotmail become an IMAP service? I've always known it as a POP or POP3.

Double check your stmp settings.

Since Hotmail is not Hotmail anymore but Outlook.com and offer IMAP settings, which is way better than POP3 by the way...

This was bugging me too but luckily found the fix today. In the Mail Preferences for the Hotmail IMAP account simply set the Outgoing SMTP server to None. The messages still send out but are no longer duplicated. As it is using IMAP I assume it does not require SMTP.

Ok, how did you all put hotmail into Mac Mail? It's always defaulting to POP3 for me. When I try to use OutLook's information it doesn't connect.

So if someone can step me through it, I'll appreciate it.

I don't know why, but when I did that, it shows 5 messages as sent email instead of 2 !!

I'm not sure what's going on but it's probably a software issue ..

I can't show folders (subfolders in Outlook.com) in Mail(OSX). I'm not sure what I'll do, maybe get Outlook(OSX) or Thunderbird .. I'll check this out ..

I just worked it out. If your email is johndoe@hotmail.com, type in xxxjohndoe@hotmail.com with the correct password. It will fail and ask for manual setup You can then select IMAP and correct the email address and description as it should be. You will need to put in the correct IMAP servers. (Google them)

You may also have to "convert" your hotmail account in outlook.com

Did you find a way to copy your old emails and folders into the hotmail installed as IMAP?

I've been using Mail forever and used it instead of hotmail in the browser - which is why I organised my folders really nicely in Mail but not in hotmail. As it was pop3 it also didn't sync.

Now the thing is that with my iPhone and iPad and the mac all using mail and all being hooked up with the same hotmail account, it would be nice to kind of have the filing system I used so far on all devices and online, too. I could obviously to this by disabling the hotmail account in mail as pop3 and setting it up again as IMAP and then doing the entire filing again (which would very likely drive me crazy) ....OR FIND AN ACTUAL SOLUTION on how I can copy the entire email folder into sort of duplicated folders - with the difference of the new ones using IMAP thus applying the same filing system to all.

So the question is - how did you deal with this tidying up and is there a solution?

I have tried setting up the same account again on my mac because I thought I could then simply copy the folders... But Mail recognised the email address and kindly informed me that this email address was already set up ;)

I created the same named folders in the Outlook.com system. You can either do it in Mac Mail but I did it in Outlook.com in the web which is probably the more reliable way.

You can then check all the folders now appear in your Mac Mail when you reopen it.

Instead of saying On My MAc they will have your hotmail address as a grey heading.

Then in Mac Mail I dragged the mails from Mac folders and dropped into the IMAP folders ten at a time. Any more than that and Outlook.com sometimes objects. Takes a while! Back up the Mac first!

Re the account, if you delete the account from Mac Mail, restart, then add it back with errors as I suggested, you should not get a message that it already is set up.

Anyone with a better method please post.

you were right, it takes a while.. it worked to set up the other mailbox, but the copying took too long - inclusing Mail trying to sync what I had set up at the same time..I think it couldnt quite cope. anyway, ended up re-organising in the browser a little, probably not the worst thing and long needed 😉

I have the same issue too, everything else works fine. i.e delete email from mail.app and it dissapears from iphone and web email. Only issue is this annoying sending twice.

I read from somewhere that the solution was to remove the outgoing server in the mail configuration, but i tried it and it gave me some error message , so its still not working.

SO ANNOYING !!

Try changing incoming mail server to:

pop3.live.com

and the outgoing mail server to:

live.co.uk or live.com

That fixed the issue for me.
