How do I stop the screen from waking when changing the volume?

This happens when I turn the volume up to or down from the "high volume" zone (red/yellow bars) and have earphone plugged in.

I've done a bit of research and found out this feature is only available in some countries (mostly in europe) and only in the iPhone 5, but I've found nothing so far that tells me how to deactivate this properly.

Someone suggested restoring the iPhone with a USA vpn, I'm not sure if this works, but it's not what I'm looking for either.
