Have older MacBookPro running 10.6.8. Main hard drive is full and now time machone backup is full..... wanting to add a second back up, then delete files off macbookpro so it'll run better- any advice

Eric, I purchased a 4 TB Seagate that I am "hoping" to back up this MacBookPro and clean it up, and also back up a older windows XP that is maxed out.
Would be find with me to let larger drive be time machine or not. Current external is one TB so it is big (I did a lot of home movies on it).
Right now I need an easy way to get things off my MacBookPro and make it more useable as a portable.
I easier understand click and drag files on PC from computer to backup drive... not so simple for me with MAc.
