Q: Why does iWork '09 not show in Launchpad after downloading iWork '13?

After updating to Mavericks and downloading the new versions of the iWorks suite, I noticed that Launchpad shows the new apps but not the old ones, which are still in the Applications Folder and are still being used. Has anyone else had this problem?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9), 17" 8Gb Ram, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7

Because Apple doesn't want you to use the new, but somewhat crippled ones. Thus, keeping them out of LP; otherwise, you might eventually delete the new ones. FWIW, Apple finally released some information on these new, but unimproved apps.

Baltwo has a partially correct answer, but I suspect not for the reason he states.

When iWork was updated, Apple did not remove the old iWork '09 versions but elected to place thom in a folder labelled "iWork '09". They were well aware that the new versions would require more development to bring them up to the level of the old apps, where there was missing functionality. Launchpad does not work with folders so, although the apps were in the Applications folder, Apple knew they would not be included in Launchpad.

However, if you take them out of the folder, they should, in theory, appear in Launchpad but they don't. Dragging the apps onto the Launchpad icon in the Dock has no effect at all, the apps are different to the new ones, they have a different nomenclature and their own histories, so they should be in Launchpad. Once there, they can be placed into their own Launchpad folder or not.

I incorrectly wrote: Because Apple doesn't want you to use the new, but somewhat crippled ones.

It should have read: Because Apple wants you to use the new, but somewhat crippled ones.

As for their awareness, they could have delayed rushing them out the door to meet their delivery schedule or could have published the limitations when they did push them out. The roaring masses disagree with their decision and so now they're trying to placate them.

Yes, well I'm sure that the products would not have been released in Steve's day but Apple is changing and we will have to see how it goes. As far as the issue is concerned, your response has not been helpful.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

In the meantime, I have placed both sets of iWork in their respective folders on the right hand side of the dock and that works fine. It's just that Launchpad should have included both sets of apps, not the one set. I also cannot get Finder Tabs to work, even though they are set to work. I have the impression that they should be automatic but I have to to the ctrl and T keys to make it happen.

Sorry you didn't find it useful. That's my opinion of LaucnPad and other app launchers. Useless, since the Dock's single click feature is all that's needed on my machine and LP's been removed from the Dock, along with Mission Control..
