Safari windows are mostly "Untitled" after restore

Since upgrading to Mavericks my Safari windows are mostly Untitled after quitting Safari (or shutting down and rebooting the Mac) then bringing up Safari again. If I had, say, seven windows open, then the first two or three may have titles, but the rest are "untitled" until I click and restore each one. They do restore OK to what they were originally, but I don't know what they are until I restore them.

Never had this problem before. I've tried disabling the extensions and pugins. I've also tried putting the Safari plist files into Trash. Nothing works.

Is this a known issue? Any ideas about how to fix it?

I found the answer, and it wasn't directly related to Mavericks, but probably to the preference changes on istalling Mavericks.

I went to Guest user and Safari was restoring all windows after quitting with the correct titles. So I looked at Safari preferences while in Guest user and saw that the "Safari Opens With" preference was there and said "New Window" but gave the option of "Last Session".

So i went back to my own User, looked in Safari preferences thinking I would simply change the "Safari Opens With" preference--but it wasn't there at all.

I looked that up on a Google search, and it turns out that in the System Preferences under General you have to have "Close windows when quitting an application" checked (counterintuitively) to have the Safari preference "Safari Opens With" appear at all.

Now, the questionis, once the Safari preference is set to Last Session, if I then turn off "Close Windows When Quitting an Application" will the Safari preference stay the same, that is, restart with windows from the last session, even though the preference isn't there. IOW, will it keep the setting even ? I'll post back here once I try it.

The answer is, no, if the System Preference under General isn't set to Close Windows, then the Safari preference for Last session isn't there, and while reopening Safari will bring up all the windows from the previous session, they will still be Untitled. Therefore, you have to leave the Close Windows option checked to get the Safari preference to be there.

Maybe there is a workaround for this, but I don't know what it is. I didn't have this problem in ML or with the previous Safari version (?6)

I have "close windows when quitting an application" checked as well as Safari opens with all windows from last session. I just had to force reboot my computer and upon reboot about half my safari tabs are set to untitled. This has happened a bit before but not to this extent. I'm completely livid and will likely need to switch to Chrome as this causes me to lose a ton of time trying to track down what the tabs were...

I'm on Safari 7.0.5 and Mac OS 10.9.4

Trabbb,

About the only workaround I've found, unsatisfactory as it is, is to "Quit" Safari itself when I get all those untitled Windows, but not reboot. Then open Safari again, right away, and all the windows should be titled again.

And if you happen to open Safari via, say, an email link, and you a=have only one window open and think you have lost all the other windows completely, see if you can "Reopen all windows from last session" under history.

I've switched to Chrome, myself, for a lot of things and for other reasons, but it has its own set of frustrations at times in terms of setting preferences and working with extensions. Safari is Apple's native browser and generally works better with the Apple OS.

I'm thinking of trying Firefox once again--been off it for a couple of years.
