Volume control crashed on 6th nano.

The other the volume control on my 6th generation ipod nano crashed. I has nothing to do with the control on the headphones, but on the ipod itself. I pressed the + button but it didn't get any louder but less actually. The + button is also somewhat harder to press than the --. Anybody had the same experience or any suggestions on how to solve the problem?
