Safari bookmarks, slow & spinning

I've been having a problem with Safari bookmarks for the past week or two:

1) The "+" sign previously added pages as a bookmark, now it adds as a Reading List item and I do command D insted to add a bookmark.

2) Adding a page to Bookmarks is extremely slow & I get the spinning wheel each time.

3) Moving folders around with the Favorites or Bookmarks Menu is slow & also spins.

I'm on a Mac OS 10.7. Safari version 6.1
