iPhone 5s lightning cable won't charge in Volvo

I have a 2013 Volvo XC60 that has a USB port built into the console.

My iPhone 5s' Lightning-USB cable charges it fine from AC Wall Adapters, auto cigarette lighter adapters, and USB ports on my computer.

When I plug it in to the Volvo XC60, I get the Lightning bolt on the iPhone, but the phone never charges. My wife's iPhone 4s charges fine from the Volvo USB adapter.

I've tried two other cables, (One apple, one not), and none will charge in the car.

Does the USB portion of the lightning cable have any difference from other USB-30 pin cable that the 4s uses, that would not make a proper connection in the Volvo?

Thanks...

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.2

I have an XC90 and the exact same problem, although up until 20 December 2014, my lightning cable worked perfectly in it. After that day (and I don't recall there being any software update on my phone around that time although I may be wrong) my iPhone 5S stopped connecting to the car USB via the lightning cable although my husband's iPhone 4S still works fine on a 30-pin cable.

I have since discovered that I can connect my iPhone 5S if I use a 30-pin cable with an Apple 30-pin-to-lightning adaptor on it. But it would be good to find a solution...
