Mavericks could not create recovery system

Hi, I'm trying to install OS X Mavericks and I'm running into a problem. It always fails about 15 minutes on telling me that it can't create a recovery drive, and telling me to go to www.apple.com/support/no-recovery which then redirects to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649 I try to follow the instructions, but it doesn't help! I would just back up my HDD, but my external Hard Drive isn't big enough to hold my Mac and Windows partitions. If need be I can always get rid of windows because there's no personal files, but I'd really rather not.

If you can help at all, then thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
