Could you please check to see if the update was applied. Look at the updates option in the app store. Here it will list what updates have been applied. Is it still in the upper window (updates) or has it moved to the bottom of the window (Updates Installed in the last 30 Days)? The two (today) updates requested that you log out of mail and itunes.

Now, should the updates be still listed in the update window and you cannot find the window requesting you shutdown the apps. Check you mail.app to see if it has been modified today. Mine shows version 7.0. The modification date should be today, if not, the update did not download. Log out and log back in and check if the update shows in the app store if it is there, run it again.

This should clear up any update problems. Should mail still not launch, You will need to reboot and look at your system log to see if mail launces and what errors there may be. Please post the error and do not include your system log. It is usually too big.

It is still in top window. Nothing below. New to Apple so don't know where to find mail.app. Don't know where to log out and in - tried shutting down and it would not let me; tried restart and it would not let me; both said Mail was preventing it. Tried turning it off manually and back on - no help.
