MXF Panasonic P2 import to FCP X

Running FCP X (10.0.8) on a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5 Lion)

Copied the entire contents of the P2 card onto the desktop (MXF files). Open FCP X and the import file window. Some of the files show up as P2 files, others as "windows"

The P2 files are fine and appear to be ready to import. However, the "Windows" files import, but as a still (not moving video) and in very pixilated quality. See below:

Is there any way that I can modify the "Windows" files so they will work? Why do some work, and not others? Lastly, is there a reliable conversion program or plug in that will actually work? I've tried several, including Bororsoft MXF Converter for Mac and Wondershare's Video Converter Ultimate -- and both don't do the job.

With both of those programs, they import audio and video files separately (this is how the files are the sub folders inside the main "content" folder:

If you import just the video, the conversion program (neither one of them) matches it with the appropriate audio file; so you get video with no audio or visa versa.

So, I have all this HD (1080i) footage..... but no way to use it. We've all been there. Any help would be most appreciated.

1) You should be able to import straight from the camera into FCP X.

2) When copying content from a camera card, don't just copy the files separately. You need to bring in the whole folder structure. You can use FCP X itself to create a camera archive, which you can store safely, and import from.

3) Avoid all converters if possible. Not only are they unnecessary, but they may also degrade quality significantly.

(By the way, the title of the article jonsherry suggested sounds fishy. "Rendering" makes no sense in this context, which by itself is a good indication that such "article", or the software it peddles, is not to be trusted)

(And, by the way those "windows" files are 14KB long - they surely are NOT video files!)

Well, I cannot find any plug-in to help import Panasonic P2 MXF files to FCP. users can user a Canon XF plug-in provided by Canon to import Canon MXF to FCP, but I have not tried to import Panasonic P2 MXF with this plug-in. Anyway, you can try it. If it does not work, try this program MXF Converter in iTunes store.

FCP X don't have the log and transfer as FCP 7. We need to convert P2 MXF to ProRes for easily editing. Conversion is easy. But sometimes, we may encounter audio problem when importing P2 card MXF footage to FCP X. So you need to keep the whole structure of P2 files as well as workable workflow. You can try Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac.

Running into the same problem with my new Panasonic AJ-PX270. The reason that some of your files appear and ingest normally and other don't has to do with the codec you used to record the files. When I shoot with the Panasonic AVCi100 format, it acts like any other importable file in FCPX, but when I shoot with the LongG25 codec, I see the exact same thing you listed. In the import window I only see the Windows file type and I get a small thumbnail, but no footage.

Was hoping to find an answer in this forum. Unfortunately I am only seeing others with the same issue :-(
