When I transfer a playlist to my ipod shuffle it does not set the playlist in the order I want. Instead it alphabetizes the songs. This did not used to happen. I use this for running in races and I want the songs in a specific order.

If you play songs from the default All Songs list on the shuffle, with the shuffle's power switch in the play-in-order (middle) position, the songs play in alphabetical order.
If you have a playlist on the shuffle, you need to use VoiceOver to choose that playlist. This document describes how to set up and use VoiceOver on the shuffle

Once you have selected the playlist, the songs play in the playlist order shown in iTunes.
