Hello.
I have Pages 4.3 installed. Not upgrading to Pages 5 because I refur Iwork 09.
When clicking into the full screen mode, I get a black background surrounding the edge of page. How can I get the normal full screen view with the whole window fullscreen with no background and everyhting else hidden?

I've never used it in fullscreen.
Pages ’09 v4.x was not written to do what you want. The true full-screen application support isn't provided, and what you get with that black background is just a low-distraction solution.
Pages v5 is a total rewrite. Apple has confirmed that. If the full-screen support you seek is in the engineering plans, it will eventually become available, either now, or in one of the phased product updates that Apple also admitted were planned.
