Thunderbolt Display not detected by iMac 27" 2011

I have an iMac 27", early 2011. I just bought an Apple Thunderbolt display and the iMac will not detect it. If I connect the Thunderbolt to a MacBook Pro the MacBook detects it without a problem.

According to System Information on the iMac it says: "Thunderbolt: No hardware found."

Anyone else seen this problem?
