Numbers 3.0 won't save files!

Numbers 3.0 suddenly won't save files on my Macbook Pro.

I opened a .csv file, made some changes in Numbers, and tried to Save to my desktop. I get a window that says "The file '[filename].numbers' couldn't be opened".

I tried to Export to a .xls file, and also Share>Send a Copy>Email and chose Excel as the option. Same message about not being able to open the file.

This makes Numbers totally unusable for me. And for some reason, the old version of Numbers is suddly gone, so no fallback there anymore.

Any tips?

Olso,

Here's a tip. Try saving to a very simple one-word filenane with no special characters in it. If that works, then you can assume that OSX choked on your previous attempt because of the name content.

OK, here's another approach... Copy the table in the stubborn document and Paste it into a fresh blank template and see if you can save the new docment.

Hi Oslo,

Numbers 3 exports to Excel fine on my machine, though it uses the extension .xlsx not .xls.

Same with Share>Send a Copy>Email. Works fine.

So maybe you should try closing Numbers 3 and reopening it, or restarting your Mac.

Your old version of Numbers should still be on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09 or similar.

Tried it out. It wouldn't save to my desktop. It saved to iCloud, but now it won't open it.

Hi, SG. It was working fine on mine until a couple days ago. I've since shut down my computer and reopened Numbers, but am having the same issues.

I found the older version of Numbers. Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm getting the same message on that one when I try to save files. Ugh!

At this point I would suggest that you launch Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on your HD.

I figured it out. It wasn't a Numbers issue. It was an iCloud issue. I signed out of iCloud and signed back in and now I don't seem to be having the issue.
