How to update App Store apps using ARD?

I find the Unix command softwareupdate -a -i does mine - have you tried that?

The standard unix command is: softwareupdate -i -a. This is the one I use. Does the order make a difference?

The order of the arguments that you give is the more usual one, but I don't think the order matters. I just tried the command with the arguments in the order Shawn gave and it worked just fine.

It does not, however, update apps purchased from the Mac App Store. I haven't yet found a way to do that via ARD. From reading other discussions I don't believe that to be possible.

I did develop an Applescript that downloaded outstanding updates from the Mac App store, then placed it on the host machine and Launched it from ARD.

Worked fine when there was only one update, then it broke when there were two as the buttons moved around. I eveltually gave up as it was too much work trying to figure it for my small number of 'puters.

I am having the same issue. It updates the Software Updates no problem, but Apps have to be manually, and have to enter password for AppleID.

Yes, same situation here. I simply cannot update each App on every computer each time a new update happens.

There's got to be a way to either Disassociate the AppleID and let the user redownload it... OR, a way to push app store updates through ARD.

I found the answer. However, you must be updated to Mavericks (10.9). In System Preferences > App Store there are options on downloading apps automatically.

This does it.

Thanks davidwick for the suggestion, however we cannot leave our AppleID signed in as we use it for institutional purchases also. We don't want to give the students access to that AppleID and purchased items under that account.

Hopefully, you have created a different accounts for students and administrators for each computer (that's how we set up our computers). If so, make the Student account a managed account. That way you can turn off access to the Apple Store (and other applications and settings you don't want them to access) in System Preferences > Accounts > Parental Controls.

Eeek..Well this is all problematic. Even accounts aside I'd want to install app store updates after testing them (say in the case of FCPX 10.1) so auto update won't be the right solution. Anyone finds a slick way to do this I'd be interested instead of going one by one.
