Can 1st generation iPads be updated to ios 7?

I have the first generation iPad. The updated for ios are only to 5. Most software won't install because iOS is too old. Does any one one have a solution? I don't want to upgrade iPads at this time. Also the Internet when on sites just shuts down randomly. Anyone know a solution to that problem too?

Correct. iOS 5.1.1 is as far as an iPad 1 will go.

Try This...

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...

Reset ( No Data will be Lost )

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

If no joy...

Reset all settings

Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.

This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

If the issue persists...

Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore

Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes Installed on your computer

iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download

Note:

Also consider Deleting any Apps you have Purchased / Downloaded but you now never use.

I know this thread is old, but I recently had a hard time trying to install Netflix & Flixster (for Ultraviolet) on my first generation iPad. I found a solution on another thread & wanted to post it here. Thanks to flambocious & pilotkausa in the original thread for the great advice! I was able to download older iOS 5.1.1-compatible apps easily. Hope this helps.

1) Open iTunes on your desktop.

2) Go to the iTunes Store.

3) Search for the app you want (Netflix, Flixster, etc); download the app to your desktop.

4) Open App Store on your iPad.

5) Click on “Purchased.” Find the newly downloaded app on your list, and click “Install.” App Store will ask you: "Download an older version of this app. The current version requires iOS 6.0 or later, but you can download the last compatible version." Just click "Download" and you’re ready to go. You can install any app like that.
