TEMPORARY BAND-AID SOLUTION!

 > Sys Prefs > Network > Select Your Connection > Advanced > TCP/IP > Renew DHCP Lease

iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Turn-Off Home Sharing

iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Turn-On Home Sharing > Enter Password

Your homeshare will now appear on all devices. But this only lasts while your homesharing computer is awake. The second it goes to sleep, the homeshare will no longer appear. Whatever you are currently watching will continue to play, but when you back out you will once again experience the loading circle only to end after a minute saying it can't connect.

Now to make some points. Yes, as a couple of people have commented, it is networking. But it is NOT network HARDWARE. It is network SOFTWARE (programming) in Mavericks that is causing the issue. You can reply and argue semantics all you want, but it is not the hardware or the router setup causing the issue. And for those that just want to comment and say turn on "Wake for Network Access"... it's already on. I've only used Apple computers for almost 27 years - probably longer than most of you have been alive. I'm pretty sure I know how to setup and use my Mac!

Hope this helps those of you with the issue, and I hope it helps Apple resolve this issue with the .1 update!

Hi Inail,

that is exactly what I am forced to do: home sharing works for a while, then a message comes up on my iphone (running the remote app) that I need to turn home sharing on - I then go to iTunes, turn home sharing off and on again and it works for a few minutes. I am running a laptop with windows wirelessly to an airport express that is plugged into my stereo. PLEASE APPLE, FIND A FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey, I had this issue as well and just fixed it. I'm running on windows 7 so the solution may or may not help. When you download itunes, a service called Bonjour also downloads and allows you to use the remote app and share libraries through home sharing. Apparently, the service got interrupted and was disbaled so when I tried to connect my remote app on my phone, it didn't work. I made sure that home sharing was turned on and that I allowed my library to be shared with other devices and then I closed itunes and did this:

control panel > administrative tools > services

In services, right click on bonjour and click on restart.

See if that works. I know you're using a Mac but I'm sure theres something similar.

I have the same issue as Massmedia - Home Sharing is setup on my macbook pro and works absolutely fine from my Apple TV but no longer works from my iPhone 4S now running iOS7.04

Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6.8

iTunes 11.04

Apple TV (latest software update?)

iPhone 4S with iOS7.04

Let me recap...Apple TV can access shared music library via Home Sharing with no issues. The iPhone 4S can ACCESS the shared library, SCROLL through the songs, but when I attempt to PLAY a song it just skips it and sends me back to the browsing screen.

I appreciate any response - I am with some of the other users on this...in my opinion, these expensive devices are not working as advertised...so let's fix the issue.

I Have been trying to fix this issue for months ever since updating our two iPads. Yesturday I fixed the problem! All I did was update the firmware on our Netgear router. Did a search on google on how to do it and in minutes everything works 100%. I hope this works for everyone. The link I used is below.

Hi everyone. I was experiencing a similar problem where my iPad and iPhone would not connect to my Apple TV. It worked on initial setup and then a few days later I would get the error on the remote app saying to turn on home sharing in iTunes and my Apple TV even though they were both already set to on (as stated everything was working). Anywho, long story short I did the following on my iPhone5 and iPad air both running iOS7. On the device, tap settings>Wi-Fi. Then on the network your using (blue check mark) tap the blue "i" in the circle and scroll down to "Renew Lease". I selected that went back to the remote app and instantly both devices showed the Apple TV icon on the remote app instead of "turn on home sharing" and work perfectly. As a side note, on my Mac by going to system preferences>network>advanced>TCP/IP you will see a renew DHCP lease button you can try as well if your Apple TV cannot find your computer in the menu. I'm guessing it must be a router issue provided by my internet provider. I have a dynamic IP (as do most) instead of static so maybe that is part of the problem. Good Luck

I've been dealing with this issue since I updated my iPad 3 to ios6. I bought my iPad 3 when it came out in March of 2012 and the iPad 4 came out in October of that same year with "better wifi". So my guess is the iPad 4 ran home sharing a lot better than my iPad 4 did. I made numerous calls to Apple for almost a year. Every representative I contacted took my information and told me they would call me back. No one ever did. I continued to call, but it almost seemed like they all knew it was an issue that couldn't be resolved and basically wanted to avoid it.

Hey Everyone. I had this same, frustrating problem since the Maverick update. Just stumbled upon the solution that worked for me. Specifically, this was for connecting my iphone, ipad, and other devices to itunes on my computer. I do NOT have an Apple TV, so cannot aid with that one.

in the instructions, once you try to pair the remote from your device, it gives you the 4 digit code, then tells you to go to itunes and open the remote tab from the tab bar. but there is none...!?

get to the part where it gives you the code on your device and is waiting for you to connect on the other end.

In itunes, I noticed, on the right hand side, where it says, devices (connected devices), it had a number there that was 5. i only have 4 devices, so immediately it grabbed my attention. i clicked to see what the 5th device was... sure enough, it was my iphone, but with the REMOTE APP symbol in front of it. so it was recognizing the iphone individually, and then secondarily as the remote. I simply clicked on the device listed, and it asked for the 4 digit code. worked perfectly. no need to turn off anything in my network, or router.

hope this helps! if you need clarification on anything i typed, please ask!

Thanks Kellintastic, restarting Bonjour worked on my Windows 7 PC.

Previously I had restarted iTunes, restarted PC, but nothing seemed to work until i read your fix.

So, for Windows 7, Administrative Tools may not show up in your Control Panel. You can add Administrative Tools to the Start Menu using this info: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff700232.aspx

Click on Services

Scroll to find Bonjour

Click on Restart link

I have exact the same problem as Inail. I have tried many other solutions, but these only work for a few days maximum.

Today I installed the new iTunes version and homesharing stopped working altogether, despite resetting ATV, restarting iTunes, PRAM reset iMac, ... :(

Frankly, I think I am going to give up on homesharing as I think it will never work for me.
