The iPhone/iPad can see my home library and attempts to access but then says that it is not available and I need to activate home sharing. It has only occurred since update these devices. I checked and rechecked everything, rebooted, check for updates and done that and still nothing. We did get the home sharing to work with our music library for about 20 minutes. It took 55 minutes to finally complete the access and then dropped out. That was a week ago and it has not worked since then. We have googled and checked blogs and found we are not alone, so last resort was this community.

Hi DJ you are not the only one, I have the same isssue since iOS7 I have home sharing on on my Mac Apple TV sees it so it is on but my Iphone and iPad cannot see it. If you go to settings it gives you a number and tells you to open iTunes on your computer in iTunes it says chose Remote from the tab bar... What tab bar and I have no menue or other tab called remote? (PS iTunes on my Mac Pro running Mavricks and Latest ver of iTunes).

Thanks Guys.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Winston,

I have noticed this same type of post all across the discussions site saying it is network issues. Please answer me this.. Why ONLY after the update did the issues begin? The first rule of troubleshooting is the common denominator. It is repeated over and again that after the update people began experiencing issues with home sharing.

I am a 25-year Apple user. I am a Director of IT. My network is fine. My issue is not network related.

If ANYONE from APPLE, or anyone with an answer other than network, could please provide insight as to what the problem is, please post.

That's because you aren't looking for the common denominator as you suggest, you are looking at a very small subset of users like yourself, you aren't considering at all the vast majority of users that don't have a problem. it's common that users have issues after updates because updates have a habit of revealing existing problems that didn't show up previously, there are no more of these reports after this update than there were with previous ones.

I would totally disagree. I have all Apple products and I can't get none of them to connect to Home Sharing. I have waited on hold for hours and talked to 4 Techs within apple only to have then reset my iPad or for me to do a restore. I have the latest software versions and everything is up to date and still home sharing doesnt work. Interference should be a issue only if there was an exsisting issue before. Apple needs to be responsible and address these issues. When someone purchases a product for 900.00 and is told that these are the features they shold work. Flawlessly, without any issues of or having to troubleshoot for multiple hours and go through extensive network setup. Restore, Reset and multiple restarts does not fix the problem. I continue to call and sit on hold with Apple only to return to square one. It Still doesnt work!

I guess it's up to you whether you agree or not. You don't exactly say what your problem is and I don't really need to know here because it's someone else's thread. But...

You state you have exactly the same software as I do (up to date) but you don't say how many 'all' devices is, but apparently none of them work. So despite the fact that you have the same software, all of your devices don't work and all of my 18 devices that use home sharing do work, you still don't seem to think it's anything but the Software.

Winston, The issue at hand is Home sharing doesn't work after an update from Apple. Not whether there is interference on a network where people need to install another software to trouble shoot. And BTW, I'm happy that all 19 pieces of electronics work for you. Hurray for you. The issue still stands me (and my 14 Apple products) and countless others still can't connect using Home Sharing. after A SOFTWARE update/upgrade. A software feature that should work as it previously did before the upgrade! That's the issue. Apple makes it very easy to install and operate their Internet devises so people with little or no networking skills can have WI-FI and Internet access to their home. All I'm saying is if you don't have a reliable fix them don't suggest fixes that require people who spend a lot of money for things to work as requested and projected by having them download more software. So if that opinion offends you or anyone. Just my two cents. It should work with no issues.

Haven't checked recently, but it did do last time I looked.

First check in iTunes > Preferences > Sharing and ensure the 'Homesharing computers and devices update play counts' checkbox at the foot of the window is checked.

If it is, you may wish to check whether you have crossfading enabled (iTunes > Preferences > Playback) on any of your computers. If so, turn it off and restart iTunes.

Interference is just one possibility to consider. The point being that since all my devices work and all yours don't then it's without doubt something that is different between our set ups, since one thing that isn't different is the software itself, then it's easily ruled out.

I find it somewhat unreasonable to hold Apple responsible for something that is entirely out of their control, but clearly you think that's OK.

Beun,

I am still not able to get my home sharing to work after this update. Apple at this point is no help?!?# I continue to reset my network, which is the new Airport Extreme, iTunes and devises. Apple makes this very easy to set up and should be just that. EASY! hopefully Apple will respond to this and come up with a fix so this will continue to be an attractive feature. Funny thing is that all of my apple TV's work and are hardwired to the AE. No issues there. I have no luck with the wireless side all of my devises that use wireless cannot connect. But other wireless devises work??? Very frustrating as customers should not have to install network analyzing software to troubleshoot their devises. People just don't get it. The whole reason people purchase Apple products because the just work. Sort of this time.😟
