I cannot see youtube videos ("This video is not available now") on my iPad.

My wi-fi connection is not the problem, because I can play videos on my pc!

iPad, iOS 7.0.3

Playing YouTube videos on iOS requires that the videos be available in HTML5 format. It used to be the case (I'm not sure if it still is) that some YouTube videos could not be played using the HTML5 player.*

One thing to try is to install the free YouTube app from the App Store to see if the same video plays there on your iPad. If it does, then it's likely not available as an HTML5 video. (Note that installing the YouTube app will change the user experience such that tapping on a YouTube video in Safari will open the video in the YouTube app all the time.)

* You may still try to opt-in to the HTML5 player using http://www.youtube.com/html5, although on Desktop web browsers, YouTube still falls back to Flash if the HTML5 player won't work.

Just grasping at straws now:

  • Have you tried rebooting your Wi-Fi router? (Unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.)
  • Have you tried watching YouTube videos on another Wi-Fi network (work, school, friend's house, coffee shop, etc.)?
  • Do videos from other video sharing sites work, like vimeo.com?
  • You could try clearing Cookies & Data, and clearing History, from Settings > Safari, but that wouldn't affect the YouTube.app.
