No sound after sleep

Is anyone else having a problem on their Mac (mines the rMBP late 2013) where the sound doesn't work after sleep?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I assume your MBP is a late 2013 running Mavericks. If so, there is something wrong with your OS if you do not have the audio folder in your root (not user) folder under library/preferences/audio. I would call Apple Care and ask them about the problem. Dr Prem's solution isn't relevant to your system if you can't find the files as described. That is why I would talk to Apple Care.

Oh yeah I for sure will be calling Apple soon as I get back to the UK (my country of purchase) as I'm away traveling till the beginning of March.

I've also had issues where my MacBook fails to sleep properly sometimes, leading to it crashing not being able to wake up, requiring a hard shutdown i.e. by holding the power butting down for like 10 seconds. This is my main reason why I will be calling Apple, I'm not impressed in the slightest with this Haswell MBP.

Can I just ask, what do you mean by "there is something wrong with your OS"? Do you mean that my installation of Mavericks is dodgy or that my rMBP is dodgy possibly in terms of hardware?

I am making the assumption that your missing audio file folder is a symptom of a problem since I have the same files and location as Dr Prem and have not heard anyone else dispute that other than yourself. I am not able to say why our computers differ but I would have to say that they should both have the files in the same location and not be "missing".

On the right as in the screen grab below, should be your HD icons on the desktop. Double click on your OS drive and you should see seomething like the Finder window below. Click on library, go to preferences and click. You should now see a bunch of preference files but at the top or near the top should be another folder called audio. That is where you will find the two preference files to delete after booting up in safe mode.

Please note: The screen grab need to be scrolled to the right to see the disk icons.

As a reply to myself regarding the deletion of the audio preference files, my audio failed a few minutes ago after 2 or 3 days of no problems. For my MacBook Pro, the conclusion is that it doesn't fix the issue for me. I deleted the preference files on two different occasions with the same results. I will not try a third time. I'm glad this method resolved the issue for Dr Prem. I haven't heard from anyone else having success with his fix from Apple Care.
