strange interference kef x300a usb speakers

Has anybody got any idea of how to find out what could possibly be the cause of an intermittent problem where for no apparent reason an oscilating tone will keep coming from my KEF x300a speakers (non -wifi).

I think it may be a hardware / software issue as opposed to the speakers themselves - i just would like some clues as to where to start looking.

i've got an imac from about 2008 - the speakers are usb powered. at first i thought it may be some interference through buetooth or even wifi - but i turned both off and still got this tone coming through the speakers.

The wierd thing is that i can make the tone stop by clicking and holding the mouse button! this is what makes me think it could be software / hardware. But i may be wrong! I

where do i start!?

(i've repired all disk permissions , am running mavericks)

thanks

Dave

I eventually found out what caused the interference (but must have answered it in a different thread).

I turned out to be a dodgy keyboard. Something must have spilt there. It wasn't a jammed key and was only intermittent but that was what caused the weird high pitched interference. might not be your problem - but if you have a spare keyboard, maybe give it a go.
