Here's my experience regarding Mavericks and the Lego NXT program:

After much searching and trial and error I've been able to get the latest version of the Lego NXT software (EV3) to run, however selecting the "My Portal" will still cause it to crash.

Here's what I did. I backed up the builds in the Lego Creations folder found in the Documents. I then deleted the Lego Mindstorms from the Applications, as well as the Lego Creations Folder in the Document. I then had to go into the Library and delete the Framework folder. I then emptied the trash and restarted the computer. I searched for anything containing Lego and deleted it so long as it was not my backup builds that I just created.

Next I made sure that my Adobe Flash player/plug-in was up to date as well as Microsoft's SilverLight.

I then downloaded the latest version of the NXT software from Lego's website along with the NXT Fantom drivers. Once they had downloaded, Mavericks did not want to let me open them. So I went into the Security and privacy settings in System Preferences and set it to allow apps downloaded from anywhere to run. I was then able to run the Lego NXT installer. Once the Installer had began running I got a notification from Mavericks stating there was a problem, I ignored it as the installer continued to proceed. Once the NXT installer told me it was successful I closed the error message that Mavericks had given me. I then went into the NXT disk image and found the file titled "Parts" and opened it. I then ran the "legodriver.pkg" and once it had installed I then installed the NXT Fantom drivers. After the NXT Fantom drivers completed their install I then clicked the OK button from the NXT installer that was asking for permission to restart the computer. The computer restarted and then I went into Applications and opened the Lego MINDSTORMS NXT. It took some time but it ultimately opened and I was able to use the program except for the "My Portal" as I mentioned previously.

I then went back and put the Security and privacy settings back where they were before I started this process. I hope this helps.

I just downloaded the latest NXT software from Lego and installed on Mavericks. It is working fine.

I tried Install.app first and it failed, so I tried LEGOMindstormsEngRet.mpkg and it installed without any issues. The installer requested a restart, which is odd for OS X, but I let it do it. After restart the app runs fine and connects to the NXT without any problems.

I should point out that previously I had installed the LabView runtime and the VISA drivers for a different project. I don't know if that had an effect or not, but here is what I had installed before I install the NXT software:

LabVIEW 2013 SP1 RuntimeEngine.dmg

I also tried installing the latest NXT software on an iMac running Mountain Lion. Unlike the MacBookPro in my prior post, this iMac did not have the LabView runtime or the VISA drivers installed. The NXT software is working fine here too.

BTW, My Portal works fine also.

HI Steve,

Having a problem with your same setup and bluetooth. Have you tried it?

I on a mbp 15" mid-2012 with 8 GB RAM running Mavericks (10.9.5).

What I did:

I installed the NXT2.0 software (version -- v2.0.f4 2011-09-09-1132). It installed fine.

It boots fine.

I can create programs fine.

I can link to the p-brick using the USB cable fine.

I can pair with the p-brick via bluetooth fine.

But when I to select the p-brick ("NXT") in the NXT box (upper left button of the symbol in the lower right side of the screen) via bluetooth to connect with the program, the program crashes.

Wondering if your setup works for this or have any ideas. Thanks.
