ICloud

I have had problems for a few months with iCloud not backing my phone up. It says I don't have enough storage, but I have everything turned off to back up except my calendar and reminders. I've tried all I can think of. I don't want to buy more storage because there isn't anything turned on to back up that's causing it to be full. Any suggestions??
