I'm no a macbook air 10.7.5 and the dictionary has pretty much disappeared. I can get wikipedia if I'm connected to the internet, but no usual dictionary. I'm pretty certain I haven't deleted it and my software is all up to date. Any suggestions?

my dictionary on the dashboard only have the apple dictionary though the dictionary app seems to be working fine offline... the one in my dashboard doesn't even work online, I tried removing it and re-adding it to my dashboard... but it doesn't work, how do I fix that? Do I just settle with the Main dictionary app?

Is it not in your applcations folder? Or do mean it is missing from your dock?
If the latter try going to your applications folder, and click and hold the Dictionary icon and drag to your dock.
You can also try a spotlight search.
No, it's not anywhere. All I have is the icon in the dock and the app only seems to be carrying wikipedia which is not that useful to me and worse than useless if I'm off line
Let's see if they are on your machine.
Double click on your HD, select your HD in the left>Library>Dictionaries and see if they are there.
Hi, I'm having the same problem. I updated to Sierra and now there isn't even a dictionaries folder in my library folder. Going from Yosemite to Sierra has been the only change I've made. Any suggestions?
Try : Open the Dictionary app
Go to the Menu and select Preferences
You may find your dictionaries are there but have been 'unchecked'
(at least this is what happen in my case)
I have this problem as well, since the upgrade to macOS Sierra. They are not an option that can be checked. And when I start Dictionary, it does not automatically download the dictionaries as many posts would suggest.
