Not normal. Take iPad, cable and charger to an Apple Store for evaluation.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.

Try again to see if the problem persists.

It will charge a lot faster if you reduce the brightness of your the screen (if you are using it when charging).

Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

I think it charges even slower when doing it through my MacBook Air. Is anyone else having this issue with their new iPad Air charging slowly?

I'm new to the iPad world and these forums as well. This question might be a tad bit off topic and if so I apologize. I noticed on danmohr's post above that it mentions charging the iPad using a MacBook Air. I assume this means it was charging via a USB port. If so, is this possible? I was under the impression that you can't charge an iPad via USB port, I know I can't on my PC. Just curious....Thanks!

Correct, most USB ports do not supply enough power to charge the iPad. you must use the charger that came with it.

I am also having the same issue. Until today I just plugged it in and went to bed so I did not notice this issue. Today I plugged it in @ 5% and 3 hours later it as @ 32%. Later I plugged it in during dinner @ 30% and an hour later it was only @ 42%. I will try the reset Alfred DeRose suggested...

I traded my iPad 2 in when I bought this one... But yes, it did charge quickly. Oh well, it's off to the store tomorrow. I really, and I mean really!, hate having to do that with a brand new product.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've switched cables, chargers and outlets. It still goes super slow, and never charges all the way.

I'm getting really sick if this I've been a MacMan for 25 years. The quality of Apple hardware has certainly deteriorated. Having problems with both my iPhone and this brand new iPad Air.

Same issue here. At least 4 hours on the charger and only 50%. Pretty **** annoying really. I love the new Apple stuff, but every time I upgrade to a new phone, laptop or iPad I end up having to take it into the Genius bar and get it replaced. Is it too difficult to conduct more thorough testing or at least get something right.

Going to tough it out for another week before I make the long journey to the Apple store to wait in a line.

It seems the online support doesn't accept my serial number as it is 'yet to be a supported device'....well done Apple, outdoing yourselves as always

I have got ipad air 128gb version, and didn't charge it the day I got it as there was 90% battery power on it when I turned it on the first time out of the box. I try charge it now but the little lighting symbol does not go away and change to a plug symbol like my iPod touch does when it's fully charged . Does anyone have similar problem?

Ditto. I had an iPad 2 and it did not take any time to charge at all. From the usb plug in the back of my iMac the iPad Air took 16 hours to go from 35% to 99%. If I power off and charge from a wall outlet it moves about 1% in about an hour. Not good
