That error message is a write permissions error, see the list of error codes:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1618

Check the formatting and the permissions on your drive. Is it formatted for mac? And not locked? Do you have write permissions? Is the drive directly connected or a network volume?

Can you export your slideshow movie first to the Desktop and drag it from ther to your external drive?

BW: what iPhoto version are you using? And what is your MacOS X version?

Try to enable the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag:

You can set this from the "Info" panel. Select the drive in the Finder and use "File > Get Info" or press ⌘I.

Then disclose the permissions brick and unlock it (you may need to enter your admin password).

Set the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag.

Then try again to copy to that drive.
