Q: Wi-fi in Windows 7 Bootcamp drops after a few seconds

Hi there, I'd be really grateful for any help or advice anyone could offer me.

I just bought a 27" iMac (2013, Haswell) and have set up a Windows 7 Professional Bootcamp on the hard drive. I installed the Apple support driver pack and everything seems to be working fine. Everything that is, except wireless internet in Windows 7.

When I first boot into Windows 7 the wi-fi works perfectly. It connects to my router, it can load websites and begin downloads. But usually after about 10 seconds to a minute the taskbar wi-fi icon will have an ! next to it and no websites or downloads will work. To be clear, the wi-fi works perfectly in OSX (Mavericks) and for a few moments it works just as well in Windows.

I have checked my device manager and the driver for the Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter is present and accounted for, not to mention all the other drivers that suggest the Apple Bootcamp pack installed correctly. Downloads in particular seem to make it break faster - when I run Windows network diagnostics on it to get it fixed it says 'Troubleshooting has completed: The connection between your access point, router or cable modem and the Internet is broken Detected !, and The default gateway is not available Fixed *tick*'). This makes the connection work again but only for a few minutes...

I have done a lot of googling and there seem to be several problems with Windows 7 wireless in Boot Camp, but I can't seem to find my particular problem (where it obviously works, but something interferes) or any working method to solve it.

Thanks very much for your time.

You are Windows 7, my screen shot came from W8.1. This is from my W7 BC installation on a 15 Late 2013 rMBP.

I have an older version of the driver than what you have.

    What year/model is your Mac?

    Sure, it's a MBp retina late 2013 yosemite 10-10.1

What should I do? reinstall the broadcom or just restore back to a poInt where this didn't happen?

Wifi was never dropping each 10 minutes

If you had working wireless, you can see in your Windows Update History, if any drivers were updated.

If you decide to fall back, you can download appropriate drivers from System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers as another option, if you do not want to System Restore.

II've showed ya the update on previous screen caps, do you remember? Having said that, the fix for this problem would be installing drivers again , is that what you mean?

You had a working Wireless, some updates were applied and it broke. My machine is a 15 Late 2013 rMBP which has the BC drivers (and you have already check the BC XML file). My recommendation is to fall back to these drivers and test. A System Restore may restore other parts which you may not want. One option is uninstall what you currently have (.215) and go back to (.170 from the BC drivers packages). If you run install/repair, other drivers may also fall back to the original BC version. Create a System Restore point before you choose any path to modify the drivers.

    1. In Device Manager, if you right click on the 802.11n/ac adapter, there should be an uninstall option.

    2. In Control Panel -> Programs there should be a list, from which you can choose which specific driver to uninstall.

Both options should run the driver uninstaller. Please check both, before you actually uninstall the driver. You will need to reboot. Please ensure there is an unknown 802.11n/ac device after you reboot.

The first set of images show the correct version (.215), so you can uninstall from either location.

Since you already have the BC USB, you do not need to rebuild it again. Please verify in Bootcamp.xml that the 802.11n/ac is the .170 version, before you install it again.

Please do not change any drivers yet. The version numbers are confusing.

This is what I have in the XML file. The first two are SD Card IO drivers. The last one is the 802.11 driver, but does not say 802.11n or 802.11ac.

We both have updated drivers, which is not 5.106.199.1 which is from the BC drivers list as shown here. I need to check the SD drivers. The 5.106.199.1 may be for a/b/g/n, but 802.11ac part may be from the 6.x driver. Confusing, to say the least. Do you know if your wireless which drops you is an AC or N network? You can see it from the OSX side, if you Alt+Click on the WiFi bars icon in the menu bar.
