Q: Wi-fi in Windows 7 Bootcamp drops after a few seconds

Hi there, I'd be really grateful for any help or advice anyone could offer me.

I just bought a 27" iMac (2013, Haswell) and have set up a Windows 7 Professional Bootcamp on the hard drive. I installed the Apple support driver pack and everything seems to be working fine. Everything that is, except wireless internet in Windows 7.

When I first boot into Windows 7 the wi-fi works perfectly. It connects to my router, it can load websites and begin downloads. But usually after about 10 seconds to a minute the taskbar wi-fi icon will have an ! next to it and no websites or downloads will work. To be clear, the wi-fi works perfectly in OSX (Mavericks) and for a few moments it works just as well in Windows.

I have checked my device manager and the driver for the Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter is present and accounted for, not to mention all the other drivers that suggest the Apple Bootcamp pack installed correctly. Downloads in particular seem to make it break faster - when I run Windows network diagnostics on it to get it fixed it says 'Troubleshooting has completed: The connection between your access point, router or cable modem and the Internet is broken Detected !, and The default gateway is not available Fixed *tick*'). This makes the connection work again but only for a few minutes...

I have done a lot of googling and there seem to be several problems with Windows 7 wireless in Boot Camp, but I can't seem to find my particular problem (where it obviously works, but something interferes) or any working method to solve it.

Thanks very much for your time.

This is a drastic suggestion. You can choose not to do it. Delete the WiFi adapter after you uninstall the driver. Before you reboot, install the driver from the BC USB. If the device is available and matches the version shown in Bootcamp.xml, you can reboot. Verify the version after the reboot.

    Try the Legacy driver first.

    1. Uninstall the Broadcom 6.x.x.x driver.

    2. Right-click on the 802.11n/ac device in Device Manager and click on Remove/Uninstall.

    3. Run BroadcomWirelessLegacy.exe and check Device Manager for version and test connectivity.

    4. Run BroadcomWireless7x64.exe and check Device Manager for version and test connectivity.

    5. Reboot and check version and test connectivity.

Right-click on the 802.11ac adapter and uninstall the driver and then remove the adapter.

    sorry for taking forever

I've done what you suggested and I am going to test connectivity hoping it wont disconnect in less than an hour.

The driver was the same ver as the one I uninstalled which is 6.30.223.215 ver

the only thing is that when i was re-installing drivers it said --driver didn't install successfully '' so i went for ''install properly again'' something like that and it didnt show anything else.. I just rebooted because the driver wasnt showing and when rebooted it was there working, now I am connected,,however I must see if it disconnects again.

I had the same problem when I tried to upgrade to windows 10 and my touchpad stopped working so I downgraded back to window 7. Right before I upgraded to windows 10 I installed trackpad++ and uninstalled it because It wasnt working too well. I suspect when I uninstalled it, it created the original problem with the driver. When I went back to windows 7 I reinstalled the bootcamp drivers using the setup.exe on my usb and thats when the trouble started. At first I didnt realize I had a wifi problem but the first clue that should have tipped me off was when i  tried to redownload windows 10 it was constantly stopping on me. When I upgraded back to windows 10 to see if I still had a problem with the trackpad, thats when I first noticed my wifi problem so I assumed it was a windows 10 problem and thus I downgraded back to windows 7 but the problem persisted. I even uninstalled windows 7 and deleted the partition on my mac and reinstalled windows 7 to try to fix the problem but no luck. I quickly realized that the problem started as soon as I installed the boot camp drivers. Using the advise on this forum, I installed the legacy driver and my wifi seemed to be fixed as soon as I rebooted. I forgot to uninstall the .217 driver so I still had the no internet access symbol on my wifi bar in the bottom right corner of the screen. As soon as I uninstalled .217 driver and rebooted, my wifi problem went away. Its only been a day since I fixed the issue but it seems that the wifi problem has been fixed, hopefully for good. The only problem that I have now is that my windows 10 app in the corner no longer lets me that I can upgrade to windows 10 and I had to get another reservation for it.

Found a solution that worked for me so far.

I had the internet connection disconnecting for few seconds every 10minutes as well on bootcamp win7.

Under properties of your wifi network connection, I just checked the 2 last boxes

    - connect even if the network is not broadcasting

    - enable wlan

This turns the wifi bottom bar notification with a red cross but the wifi and internet works flawlessly.

Hope this helps and works for others with bootcamps wifi internet connection.

    Cheers

I also ended up also adding the following final touch, no internet drop at all, all working well for me with the 3 options ticked on your wireless network

Very interesting that FIPS has to be enabled on the Network. It is not mandatory. I wonder why Australian Service Providers have chosen to do so.

Here is what worked for me:

I changed my router from 2.4 GHZ to 5 GHZ.

The websites started loading faster than before, and I don't have drops anymore.

    I hope this helps.

I had the problem myself and spent about 3 hours on it.
