Blinking folder with a question mark?

Hi there, i am having difficulties in finding ways on how to solve the problem with my macbook pro. Here is goes, earlier this morning i erased my 'macintosh hd' because i want to clear everyhing, but then i dont know why i clicked on the 'install mac os x' after i few minutes i realized that i dont need to install that so i cancel the installation, my macbook pro restart and started showing blinking folder with a question mark, so i guess files are missing 'nothing is inside the hard drive' is it problem with the hard drive? i tried to put another hard drive to my mac and it is working but the os is windows 7 (due to the hard drive im using is from my old toshiba laptop) how can i slove this? if i buy a new hard drive will i be able to use my laptop?
