macbook air os x mavericks: battery drains extremely fast even when i'm not using it

Just wanted to ask a quick question-

I have a relatively new macbook air (two weeks or so before release of osx 10.9) and i upgraded to mavericks. When i did, i loved the look and feel of the os and all that jazz, but now i notice that my battery drains way too fast. i'm talking if i use safari for an hour and a half, the battery sometimes can reach 40%. I condition my battery once every 3 weeks, and normally run on battery- now i'm living next to the charger just in case i run out of juice. Any ideas?

Well if you actually read that article you might of seen this.

Portables with built-in batteries

Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that shouldbe replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Which your Air is one of.

fine, precalibrated is not the right word- when i say conditioning, i mean that it just keeps your battery in order. The point is to make the computer recognize that there's a battery, and it doesn't just live on the power supply. anyway, do you have an answer to the question? i think it's the OS, but i'm not sure- i finished recharging 20 minutes ago and am now down to 83%. on mountain lion i used to be only at 97. I'm doing what apple posts, the yadayada, and everything.

The only 'conditioning' that you can perform is to use the MBP in an appropriate manner. I use mine under AC power as often as possible with the exception of using under battery power about once per month to the 40% charge level. I keep the cycles to a minimum.

Okay.. enough about the battery conditioning discussion.

Obviously, the problem is with the software, and not the battery. It has not even been three months since I bought the thing. There is a real long thread discussing how the users can calibrate the battery, etc. after installing Mavericks, but I do not care about how the minor issue of mis-calibration of battery so as to have an inaccurate estimate of remaining time on certain % of power. The actual time I get on battery is lower than before.

I just want a permanent software fix so as to get the most out of my MBA. All these technically savvy posters are suggesting tips and tricks, but they don't work. Apple has to step up to fix the issue. I used to get ~11hrs+ with however style of usage I use (not a gamer, I use MBA for typing, watching lecture videos, and looking up stuff on Safari occasionally for terms. Not a constant browser.) prior to Mavericks. However, this should not matter! My MBA use/behavior has not changed, but s/p Mavericks, the batter life has!

I'm through with all the suggestions for resetting little sensors and clocks, etc. with turning the computer on and off.

Please, does someone have any tangible info on what Apple is doing for a permanent fix?

You have addressed your post to me but I must point out that nowhere have I here or any other place written about "resetting little sensors and clocks, etc. with turning the computer on and off." I have directed attention to Apple articles on batteries, their maintenance, and the methods that I use in addressing my MBP batteries.

The battery time left that some users select to show in the menu bar in my opinion is almost worthless. This is due to the fact that it is reflects the activity of the MBP at a given instant and thus is too volatile to be of any practical value. Consequently I do not use that.
