First update Snow Leopard, 10.6.x, to the most current version, 10.6.8, with the Combo updater found on the Apple download site.

Then try doing the iTunes update.

iTunes 10.6.3 is the latest iTunes version for Mac OS X 10.5.8.

iOS 7 devices require iTunes 11, which needs Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine, buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the Apple Online Store, insert the DVD and upgrade.

After upgrading, you can download 10.6.8 from the Apple website or just from Software Update. Then, if you want, you can upgrade to OS X Mavericks for free from the App Store
