Q: Maverick Wifi issue

I have a very annoying since since upgrading to maverick.

The Wifi connection seems to drop as soon as there is inactivity (either just no doing anything or going to sleep).

there is an annoying wait while the wifi waits with wifi:Looking for network and then reconnects.

I have other devices on the network (windows 7 laptop, ipads, iphones and tablets and none of them have similar issues.

I see there is a lot of reports of wifo issues with Mavericks, but no feedback from Apple on any investigations, or reported fixes.

Any one got similar issues?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

    Hi there everyone!

Try to set your routers to WPA2-PSK with TKIP+AES Encryption. It works for me and my friend (who had issuess with WiFi) flawlessly.

    Cheers.

I updated the firmware on my DDWRT router and all my wifi problems seem to be fixed...I did that about a month ago and everything has been stable since.

How do I update firmware?  My wireless router is from Verizon.

I have tried the PRAM and SMR resets but neither have helped.  The constant disconnect from Wi Fi has interfered with school research, filing  FASFA forms and taxes.  There has to be a way to fix this, I just haven't found it yet.

You should probably contact Verizon on steps to upgrade your firmware or Google the model number of your router+how to upgrade firmware. If you haven't done this before or aren't comfortable with upgrading hardware/software, I suggest seeking professional help/support.

Thank you, I will do that.  I just purchased a "PingFixer, v1.1 (4+) from PLASTACHIO, it is a Mac App from ITunes.  Cost 4.99 + tax.  It was recommended on one of these forum pages about wi fi disconnecting.  Thought I'd give it a try, so far not a total success.

Spoke with both Apple tech. and Verizon tech. last night, both could not be more helpful.  Reset router/security (AES) and so far so good.  Hope this does the trick!  Thank you everyone here for your input.

    For what it's worth:

For me, it was a setting on my home router: there was an option to split (and not mix together) my 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels - I now have two separate wireless SSIDs - one for 2.4 and the other 5.

The setting, on my router, was under the Advanced Wireless settings, 5 GHz menu, and I changed "Sync with 2.4 GHz" to No (from yes).

Job done. I changed nothing else. All previous settings I had made to my MBA I always reverted back to, as they made no difference. No problems for 2 months now. Before, it was most days.

This has completely solved all wake up issues for me as described for OS X 10.9 in these forums that affected me _immediately_ after I had upgraded (a) an MBA when Mavericks first came out (but I rarely use at home) and, (b) two months ago, I decided to upgrade an older MBPro - and then that, too, started having the wake up (or not) WiFi issues. I tried many things in these excellent posts - finally, I monitored the Wireless settings by logging into my router as Admin, using my (non-Apple) smartphone, and seeing what was connected, when... Bizarrely, after turning off _all_ possible MAC addresses (WiFi equipment in my home) I found two entries were still present! What?! Initially I was scared I was being hacked, but no, I finally traced these two MAC addresses to the MBA and my MBPro that were _turned off_ So, my router was not releasing their MAC addresses from its NAT, for some reason. Hence, my usual fix, to switch on and off my router to wake up my MBA and MBPro wifi, was thus, I guessed, related somehow to the router settings, not my MBA/MBPro. These settings (see above) I eventually found after an hour or so, going through the logic, and ever since I split up the two channels (2.4 and 5 are on two totally separate SSIDs, so I have e.g. Home24 and Home5 as my two broadcast SSIDs (with two different passwords). The newer MBA (2011) is on the Home5 (5GHz) and the MBPro (2010) on the Home24 (2.4 GHz). I didn't even know my router could have two separate SSIDs, but there was an Advanced setting in its depths...

I confirm... I went through all other software issues on the MBA and MBPro, bluetooth, nothing was relevant for me - there was no way I was going to do a reinstall - so I had resigned myself to switching on/off my router to allow my Macs to "see it" - finally, I spent a weekend (two months ago) and *bang* all fixed via my router, under the Advanced Wireless settings, 5 GHz menu, changed "Sync with 2.4 GHz" to No (from yes). Nothing to do with my Macs at all. Maybe I just got lucky...

Spent months ... gave all approaches a shot...  called apple...visited the store ... for me nothing worked

I now use widows 8.1 under boot camp and all wifi and blue tooth problems are gone.  System is fast, safe and stable 100%

sad but for my late  2013 MacBook pro only windows is stable

sad for the mac  OS is no longer up to scratch
