Hi, I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. I can't neither update nor remove iTunes. A new installation from scratch is not possible either because it request access to itunes.msi, which can't be accessed.
I'm hoping there is somebody who can help.
My operating system is Vista.
I am having the same problem (looking for itunes.msi) but I'm on WinXP and using the 32bit version.
I've spent the past several days to fix it (trying various ways to install or uninstall itunes.. I even looked for an old version of itunes but it seems to be stuck between the prior version and the recent version) I thought I was the only one but it seems others have having similar problems
Does anyone have a copy of the itunessetup.exe or itunes.msi files for the last few versions so I can try I few other things Looking for all versions between 11.1.2.31 and 11.1.3.8 (to force a reinstall and uninstall)
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
Thanks. That worked for me. I was able to uninstall old version and then install 11.1.3.8
That doesn't work. It won't let me download the thing you suggested
Says a Script" Permission denied code: 800A0046
Microsoft VBS script runtime error

It sounds like you're trying to run the install online, instead of downloading the installer file and then doing the install using a local copy of the installer file. Save the msicuu2.exe file to your hard-drive. And then follow the instructions I gave you before for what to do if you get an 800A0046 ... right-click on the msicuu2.exe file that you downloaded and select "Run as administrator".
Thank you, Your a genius !!!!!!!!!!!!
🙂 You're welcome! Glad you got things sorted out.
You're really great. My problem is solved with this as well. Thanks so much!! 🙂
