Still 9943 phantom unreads!

Unread email is now adding my "real" new mail to the count. BUT when I delete the new mail, it still shows 9943! I can't mark or edit because when I go to Inbox or Unread mailboxes, it says "No Mail" and "No unread Mail". The 9943 still appears on the bottom of the screen (below the Updated Just Now"). Anyone out there with another idea? Thanks!
