Safari problems with Mavericks

Since I upgraded to Mavericks Safari will not load pages or links. I get the pinwheel of death most of the time. I wait and wait like a patient person, but eventually it just stops trying to go to that page at all. It wouldn't even load the apple communities pages to see if others are having this problems. I always get a "this page is not responding" message.

FireFox is the only browser I have that works, but even that doesn't work great since I upgraded. Isn't Mavericks supposed to make Safari faster? Have other's had this issue and what were the fixes? I hope Apple is addressing this issue.

Uninstall CleanMyMac 2 > How To Uninstall CleanMyMac 2? Complete Removal of Mac Apps

Third party so called cleaning utilities are not necessary on a Mac. They can do more harm than good. Your Mac runs maintennace in the background for you.

[loaded] com.google.keystone.agent.plist

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

~/Library/LaunchAgents

Click Go then move the com.google.keystone.agent.plist file from the LaunchAgents folder to the Trash.

Restart your Mac and try Safari.

Very good suggestions from Carolyn. I would add:

You have a ton of internet plugins, which may be a problem.

After you get rid of CleanMyMac (which really should be called TakeABigShitOnMyMac), try a safe boot (restart, hold down shift until you see the Apple logo). This does some software checking and then starts up with just a minimum of Apple software. Then try Safari. I bet it will work great. This would confirm that third-party software (like the internet plugins) is the problem. Then your options would be to remove the internet plugins (they are usually in /Library/Internet Plugins), especially ones you don't need (which is probably most of them), or look for updated versions of them. Here's a reference for safe mode: Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?

Arthur, you have just told me that plug ins for Java, Shockwave, Adobe, Flash Player, Iphoto, WMV, Silverlight, Gametree, and Wacom(my pen tabet) are all extraneous and need to be deleted. If you do not have these how do you view pdf documnets and any video on the internet in your browser? They are all updated. I doubt people would agree with you that these very common plugins that are needed both in the PC and Mac world, should be deleted. The only two you could say are not neccessary are Gametree and WMV; however, Gametree allows me to play a Mac game I purchased, and WMV allows we to watch videos for sites and my class that are in a plugin that won't play on a Mac with out a conversion.

Carolyn, thank you for your help and input. I have deleted com.google.keystone.agent.plist, and so far things seem fine, but I will need to play around more on Safari you give you a definately answer on whether it fixed my problem.

Could you tell me why that .plist was causing a problem? It was clearly there before I upgraded to Mavericks, and yet, in Lion I had no problem with it being there. I will admit I don't know what com.google.keystone.agent.plist even is, so please explain things in a nice way.

I didn't know CleanMyMac was still on there, since I deleted it a long time ago. I don't even remember what it did or looked like. Thanks for the catch, I'll delete it completely.

I will say that it is still slow at loading pages.

Empty the cache more often.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.

Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar

Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If Safari is still slow to load pages, try this DNS.

Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS

Click + and type:

208.67.222.222

Click + again and do the same.

208.67.220.220

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
