Can I use time machine backup to clone my iMac to Macbook pro?

I have a 2013 iMac and a 2010 Macbook Pro. I want to copy everything from my new iMac onto my Macbook pro. In essence, the Macbook Pro is full of crap and I want to reduce it to what I have on my new iMac.

I use a Time Capsule with Time Machine to backup my iMac. Can I simply "restore" my Macbook Pro using the iMac's backup to clone the data? The iMac has the latest operating system, which is newer than what is on the Macbook Pro.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
