I have a lightning cable charger for ipod 5th generation which is in working condition but the upper layer has peeled off due to the bad quality, used it very carefully, not a rough use, can the warranty be claimed for a new lightning cable charger ?
Will it come under physical damage?

I'm not sure, I'd recommend you find out yourself or wait for another response.
Suggest you take it in to Apple and have it checked / evaluated.

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and find out. I have been usi8ng the same Lightning cable for both my iPad 4 and 7G iPod Nano for about a year and have no problems..
I used it very carefully but I don't know how the top white layer has peeled off at the joints
The same thing happened to many of my friends cables also
There is nothing we here at ASC can do to help you
As was suggested take it to Apple so that they can evaluate it
They are the only ones that can help you

I have broken so many of these cables! I finally found a solution! There is a crowd fund on indiegogo where the guy developed a cool looking housing to clip over the weak part of the cable! It has an led light too so it's easy to plug in at night! A buddy referred me to it. You can find his indiegogo page through his website which is cordarmor(dot)com

I mean it's great if apple replaces! But it will just happen again! I'm happy I found a solution because it doesn't seem like apple has!
