This is the first time I have used this so excuse me for not understanding the etiquette

I'm based in the UK and want to buy an iTunes Gift Card for my son-in-law in the USA but can't find how to do it which is really disappinting and not what I expect of Apple - Help!!

The iTunes Stores are country-specific.  From the UK, you are not permitted to use the USA Store.  And, a gift card purchased in the UK Store is not valid in the USA Store.

I appreciate that and thank you BUT in this day and age and with a company the size of Apple I am surprised that I cannot buy a gift card in the UK from their US store for my son-in-law to spend at the US store and doubt that I am alone

That feeling is frequently expressed on this Forum, but as fellow users we cannot fix it.  You may provide suggestions directly to Apple by using the iTunes Feedback page.
