My itunes does not give me the option to pair it with remote. The remote symbol does not appear on my itunes. how can i solve this?

My itunes does not give me the option to connect to remote. No remote icon appears on my itunes tab. There is no option to enter the code to pair the library. I could use it before, but I cannot pair my ipad to my library any longer.
